Surely you can imagine this household is bustling and filled with the energy of three young boys who are always on the move. For this adorable young family of five, the need for space, practicality, and durability were top priorities in their home renovation project. With a creative design approach, we were able to swap the kitchen with the dining room, allowing for more open space bathed in natural light thanks to the addition of lots of new windows.
Here’s how our clever design solutions met the demands of an active family lifestyle.
It is often said that the heart of any home is the kitchen, and for this family, it needed to be a hub that could withstand the energetic antics of three little boys. To achieve this balance, navy was chosen for the lower half of the kitchen cabinets. Not only does it add a touch of sophistication, but it’s also a practical choice because it can hide the inevitable scuffs and stains that come with three sets of dirty feet. We were able to accommodate Mom’s love of white cabinets, maintaining a light and bright atmosphere by incorporating them in the upper cabinets. The navy + white cabinet color combo creates a fun and airy feel and ensures the kitchen remains inviting.
Next up in our bag of design tricks was to turn a closet into a bathroom!
With three active boys, having an extra bathroom can be a game-changer, am I right? A small storage closet was ingeniously transformed into a bath for the kids. Even the eaves were incorporated into the design, making the most of every inch of space. This new bathroom not only adds convenience but also provides a kid-friendly zone where they can clean up after their adventures.
For the grand finale, we were able to give the parents an extra touch of class. At the end of the day, these parents are ready to retire to their primary suite where a sentimental, heirloom dresser played a central role in the bathroom design. The client’s cherished dresser was repurposed into a stunning vanity. This not only adds a unique and personal touch to the space but also preserves a cherished family heirloom for generations to come.
